Chattanooga’s Fall Harvest Festival
A celebration of the growing season
CHATTANOOGA, TN, November 13th 21st
 
– The Main Street Farmer’s Market
kicks off Chattanooga’s Fall Harvest Festival.
The week of events is designed to draw
attention to the Main St Farmers Market and to local farmers, while creating
increased awareness amongst Chattanooga citizens of regional food production and the availability of fresh and healthy vegetables and meats.
 
Friday 13th November
• November 13th – 20th: Chattanooga’s local food photo contest. We will accept
entries in the following three categories: 1) Photo of an event during the Fall
Harvest Festival week 2) Photo of local farmers 3) Photo of a meal prepared
with local ingredients. We will select the best three from each category and
announce the winner at Crabtree Farms on Saturday November 21st at 9am.
Each of the three first place winners will receive a gift bag from the Main St
Farmers Market vendors. The wining photos will be displayed at Crabtree
Farms during the Local Food Cooking Workshops. Please email photos with
detailed descriptions in jpeg format to trae3moore@gmail.com no later that
noon on Friday November 20th. Photos submitted will be the property of
Main St Farmers Market and the market will hold the right to use photos for
future promotional purposes.
• 8:00am – 6:00pm: Greek Pastry Sale at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox
Church. Come out and chose from a variety of traditional made Greek
pastries, including Baklava, Finikia, Kataifee, Spanakopita and many more.
This is a great food culture event, and the proceeds go to help several local

• 6:30pm – 8:30pm: Green Life special Dinner featuring the wine
representative and distributor from Turkey Flat Winery in Australia, the
most collected wine label in Australia. The dinner will also feature local
turkeys from Dave Waters at River Ridge Farm. Contact Green Life Grocery

Saturday 14th Nov:
• 10:00am – 4:00pm: Battle Academy Renaissances Fair. Main St Farmers
Market will be pressing apples and leading activities around food with the
students.
• 3:30pm – 6:00: Basic Bread making with John Sweet: In this hands on class
we will attempt to demystify the bread making process with a special
emphasis on home baking. Every student will make a small batch of bread
from start to finish, while we discuss the finer points of fermentation, hand
vs. machine mixing, flour quality, and more. Students will sample lots of
bread, take home a couple good recipes, and experience the fruits of their
own labor. Cost is $50.00 and you must register for the class. Contact

Sunday 15th Nov:
• 11:00am – 4:00pm: Chattanooga Market, a great place to find local food and
a good time.
• 5:00pm – 6:00pm: Professional Chef/Cook Gathering. A call to all of
Chattanooga’s professional chefs and cooks. We will gather on the third floor
of the Terminal Brewhouse for a meeting of the profession. The purpose of
this gathering is to initiate a conversation at a group level for our local
chefs/cooks to see if there is an interest in forming a more active chef/cook
organization. The event is only open to professional chefs and cooks. For

Monday 16th Nov:
• 6:00pm – 7:30pm: Slow Food Potluck at Green Spaces on Main St. The event
is open to Slow Food members or those that are interested in become
members. Please bring a prepared dish and your own eating utensils and

Wednesday 18th Nov:
• 4:00pm – 6:00pm: Main St Farmers Market. Come out and support your local
farms at Chattanooga’s newest farmers market.
Thursday 19th Nov:
• 7:00pm – 9:00pm: Movies on Main. We will project several short food
themed films onto the outside of the bakery, bring your chairs and blankets
we will be outside. The following films will be shown, C.U.D., Jones Valley
urban Farm, and Buttermilk: It can help. Each of these films documents a
farm in the Southeast.
Friday 20th Nov:
• 6:00pm – 8:00pm: Chattanooga Local Food Summit, How to build a Local
Food System. Main St Farmers Market will host a panel discussion at Green
Spaces on Main St facilitated by Trae Moore. The purpose of the event is to
have a relevant discussion on each aspect of a local food system and how
Chattanooga can continue to move toward its goal of building a stronger
farming community while supplying healthy sustainable food to all segments
of its community. The panel will be made up of Jess Wilson from Cumberland
Online Market, Paul Smith from the Chattanooga Market, Kenny Pendergrass
from Dixie Produce, Lori Bell from Greenlife Grocery, Padget Arnold from
Sequatchie Cove Farm, and local chef. The event is open to everyone. For

Saturday 21st Nov:
• 9:00am – 1:00pm: Local Food Cooking Workshops at Crabtree farms: Classes
offered on preserving, canning, kimchie making, drying, soup making, pie
making, and lard rendering and then donut and pie frying in the lard (bring
something to fry in the lard, please no fish or meat) This will all be followed
by a potluck lunch starting at 12:30; please bring a locally prepared dish and
your own eating utensils and dishes. (This is also Crabtree last CSA pickup)
• 5:00pm: William’s Island Fall Tractor Dinner at the Pot Point House in the
beautiful Tennessee River Gorge. All proceeds will go toward helping
Williams Island Farm purchase a tractor for their organic vegetable farm on
William’s Island. Enjoy a wonderful meal from the farm, artisan silent
auction, stories by Jim Pfitzer, music by Matt Evans and Gerle Haggard, and
much more. Tickets are $50.00 and you must RSVP; for tickets, information,
